Cardano's 'Mithril' Upgrade: A Major Milestone for the ADA Community

With the data load on blockchains increasing by the day, several networks have begun to improve their existing ecosystems. The Cardano blockchain is the most recent to be preparing for a network upgrade, which appears to have sparked interest in the global crypto community. This upgrade, known as 'Mithril,' is intended to improve security and transaction processing timelines. This upgrade from the testnet to the Cardano mainnet is just around the corner.

The Cardano blockchain, which is already environmentally friendly, operates on a proof-of-stake (PoS) mining model. Cardano's native token, ADA, is also called Cardano. Its current market capitalization is $10.68 billion (approximately Rs. 87,456 crore). Cardano's Mithril upgrade aims to improve the efficiency of its speed, security, and decentralized decision-making capabilities.

This upgrade will not only improve transaction speeds on the Cardano blockchain, but it will also broaden the types of decentralized applications (dApps) that can run on it.

"Mithril retrieves a snapshot of the current blockchain state, reducing node syncing time and enabling strong security settings." Developers of decentralized applications will be able to deploy light clients and mobile applications, as well as streamline sidechain operations. Mithril will also enable stakeholder-based voting apps and governance solutions. "Secure tally verification via Mithril signatures can simplify decentralized decision-making while providing verifiable outcomes," explained Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK), the blockchain firm behind Cardano, in a blog post.

IOHK has said, “Now in its final testing stages, Mithril is preparing for a mainnet launch.”

IOHK has also been notifying the ADA community about this upgrade via Twitter for some days now.

Mithril's proof of concept will be available in August 2022. Binance published a blog post about Cardano's Mithril upgrade earlier this week.

According to the blog, "a core function of Mithril is that it brings even greater efficiency to the Cardano blockchain's proof-of-stake consensus mechanism." Mithril employs a weighted algorithm to determine each node's role in the verification process, which aids the blockchain's security by increasing the financial disincentive for the largest stakeholders."

As of now, no specific date for Mithril's launch on the Cardano mainnet has been announced, but it is expected to happen soon.

Binance's BNB Chain underwent the 'Zhangheng' upgrade earlier this month, which aims to improve security features on the BNB Chain and reduce the chances of notorious cyber actors attempting to exploit any vulnerabilities, if any.
